This weekend, the annual Youth Exchange September training Camp was held at the James Byrne Centre at Highfields, just south of Toowoomba.
The Rotary Club of Brisbane Taylor Bridge was very well represented.
Our student, Chloe Bury attended where she was able to meet Outbound students, including those exchanging to Belgium in January as well as Rebound students. Rebound students are those that have completed their exchange in previous years.
PP Stephen Ganko, who is the Country Coordinator for long term or short term students, exchanging to or from the America's (North or South, including Canada), Asia (Japan, Taiwan), Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Also from our club was PP Craig Clarke who is the YEP Club Liaison Officer and is responsible for assisting with student placement, Club and Host Family Accreditation and many other areas as deemed by the District Chair, Wendy Howitt (RC Archerfield).
The weekend Camp is primarily aimed at equipping our Outbound Students with the skills and practical knowledge to help them while away on exchange.
For this weekend the Inbound students, who are living the process and Rebound students who have completed the process, become the teachers.
The training covers such areas as harassment whether it's sexual,  physical or mental.
Homesickness.
Public Speaking.
Role playing of awkward scenarios involving situations we know happen.
Airport security.
Social media.
Personal safety.
Breakout sessions with the coordinators, to cover topics that are area specific.

The students and committee also have a lot of fun.
